Vista 64 Ultimate vs. Windows 7 64 Ultimate

My preliminary results: Right now I would have to say that the difference between the two is more cosmetic with optimization added. I know there are functions and added features in Win 7, but nothing that couldn’t seemingly be added to Vista.

Optimized

Yes, Windows 7 runs very good on lesser hardware than Vista does, but for now, I would be less to qualify that as new OS vs a significant update. On close to equal hardware there is little or no performance gaps.

Support

Vista is simply hated too much. Vilified by people who never used it or worse, had a sword to grind with Microsoft. (People who write M$ instead of MS). The XP downgrades offered by PC sellers didn’t help. The public image of Vista was irreparably damaged. MS had no real option but to classify a remodeled/revamped Vista as Windows 7.

Having built an Windows Ultimate PC, I can see support in virtually all the hardware I’ve used. Driver downloads state Win7 32/64Bit. It’s pretty clear that hardware vendors are stand behind and support Windows 7.

Updates

It may take more time to make note of differences between the two. As I come across any, I’ll be sure to note them here.
